Yesterday was another great year at
Toast Martinborough, a New Zealand wine festival in the Martinborough area. It’s a great chance to taste the regions wines, an area known for its Pinot Noir.
As a fun way to get to it from Wellington, a friend of mine came up with the idea of idea of going by helicopter. For a once a year event, makes a great way to get there.

Toast is always a great day out to get along to. Also get to sample some of New Zealand’s best Pinots.
Being a pretty big wine festival, have found the trick to having the most fun is avoiding the crowds. Martinborough is a small town with a number of wineries all within a short walk from the centre of the town. Easy to avoid the crowds by heading the opposite way around the wineries to most people.
Going by bus it can be up to two hours each way with the amount of people heading there, with a helicopter ride it’s about 20 minutes direct. Our pilot from
AV8 took us on an amazing 40 minute ride to get there, sight seeing around the south coast of the North Island, seeing the Pinnacles and then up the North Island to Martinborough. On the way back, come down the road way following the way the cars and buses go.
