Anyone that is keen to on the idea of seeing east Europe, Central Asia and taking entirely in-appropriate cars (1000cc) over in-appropriate and at time non-existent roads, should enter the Mongol Rally 2008.

Entries opened today for 24 hours with a random draw with another chance at the draw on 6th Nov.

Even if not doing it, worth checking it out the site. And if doing it, will be a cool chance to see a lot of piles and get some cool photos.

Have leave from work all lined up for my next holiday, just waiting the quote back for flights etc.

Heading off in 4 weeks time.

Was considering Mongolia again, but the plan is flying off to China and doing the Silk Road.

Found out a bit about the Mongol Rally.

Racing under 1000cc from London to Mongolia. This years race just started

My employer has a policy of staff keeping leave down as low as possible. The result of this for me is coming back to work after five weeks away and being asked when I’m next taking leave...

Well, now lonking at heading back to Mongolia, maybe Sept. Have a chance to meet up with one of the people I meet over there last time and being asked to take more leave is a good excuse to head overseas.

Was only in Mongolia for a few days last time I was there, so this would be a good chance to see more of the country… Guess I better look at getting another visa and flights sorted..

Mongolia was pretty cool to visit. Staying in a Ger camp made for nice
relaxing night. Went off horse ride for a couple of hours and then another
the next day after the night in the Ger. Ger's make for a nice warm place
to stay the night.

After headiing back to the Mongolian capital for a night, was on to more
trains. Then time a 30 hours on to Beijing. Sleeper trains do make for a
fun way to travel. Although a bit tight on space.

Beijing is like many monden Metropolis'. Getting around is pretty easy,
taxis everywhere. The traffic is interesting for crossing. Much like
Vietnam, walk across and hope the cars dodge you. Was surprised how clean the city is. Prob cleaner than central Wellington.

Well, now in Mongolia… After Irkutsk, it was another couple of night on
the train. Starting to get a bit over trains, but still make for a fun way
to cross from Russia into Mongolia.

While waiting around on the Russia side of the boarder, got someone I know
to give my hair a cut at the train station, think the locals thought we
were crazy.

Crossing through into Mongolia you quickly notice the change. The hills are
more rolling, dustier and the people friendlier… From first impressions,
think I’ll be back to visit again pretty soon.
